Something different

I wanted to post some photos from this past weekends wedding. I haven’t finished editing, but thought I would show you something different that we did.

My style is shooting in natural light, but it’s never bad to experiment with new things.

Erica wanted to take some portraits inside the church, so instead of using on-camera flash I used a Sunpak video light.

Here are a few from this sequence.

Galveston Engagement Photographer: Jenie and Emmanuel

This super adorable couple that consist of Jenie and Emmanuel have been clients since last year. I remember booking their date and thinking it would never come. Now it’s just around the corner.

We went out to Galveston Island for a fun-filled session and ended up at the beach with some big splashes. :)  Their July wedding will surely be just as much fun and filled with energy!

Here are a few favorites from their session.

Jenie is from Mexico and Ema is from Argentina so they wanted to show off their jerseys and pride for their nationalities.

Our Story

I sit here writing our story still wondering if it is all real, like maybe if I pinch myself I’ll wake up. For all of you out there in the internet world…..tan tan tan I’M ENGAGED!! And I couldn’t be happier to say that I will soon be a Mrs. to my Mr.

I don’t even know where to start with the whole story, the very will thought out story and all the back story I didn’t know was happening.

Here’s my side:

May 30th was our six year dating anniversary! I had told Pepe I wanted to take some professional photos. I felt like a shoemaker (or designer) without any good shoes. We have our normal point and shoot photos that we’ve taken over the years but it was time for some real photos. He never said no to my idea, but I didn’t think any thing of it because it was for our anniversary and I knew he wanted it to be special. After changing my mind on my outfits and coordinating with his outfits (now I know how my couples feel) we decided on a few.

When I woke up on Saturday it was just a regular day: house chores, errands and a client meeting. I had made an appointment at MAC (in Macy’s) at the new Pearland Town Center. By the time they finished (she did a great job btw) I knew I was running late. Pepe was already waiting for me to go to the shoot.

When we got to Richmond ( the city, not the street) Lindsay, an amazing photographer and colleague, was already waiting for us. How embarrassing.

I had wanted to start off with our dressy outfit first, but Pepe said he would prefer casual so he could ease into it. I agreed, because I had been nervous for weeks (go figure). We are not photogenic. We went ahead and started with our casual outfit and then changed into our dressy one. I wanted to take photos on the train tracks so we made our way over there and while we were taking photos we heard the train and got off the tracks asap. We got back on the tracks to finish the part of the photos and that’s when I heard his voice changed. He got real close and started speaking really softly.

He started asking me things for the past to see if I would remember. Being the mush that I am of course I knew.  He asked me if I remembered how he has asked me to be his girlfriend 6 years ago. His exact words had been, “Seria un honor que fueras mi novia”.  (Translation: It would be an honor for you to be my girlfriend). He then got down on one knee and said to me, “Seria un honor que fueras mi esposa, te quieres casar conmigo?” (Translation: It would be an honor for you to be my wife, will you marry me?)

I was surprised and this part is all fuzzy in my head, but of course I said YES and he put the gorgeous ring on my finger.

To add to the surprise, I found out that his parents were waiting for us at my house already. They had gone over to talk to my parents and formally ask for my hand in marriage. Pepe had already spoken to my parents the Thursday before, but this is traditional in our families.

When I got home and saw my parents I started crying and I couldn’t explain what had happend, not like they didn’t know. I was so happy yet, I couldn’t tell my parents because in that moment I knew that about a year later I wasn’t going to be coming home to their house, but to my husband’s and mine.

So when I finally got some words out I told them that Pepe had asked me to marry him and that I had said YES and then everybody hugged and rejoiced. :)

My mom asked me if I had seen the baskets when I walked in and I was so concentrated on saying hi to my family and soon to be in-laws that I had missed the baskets full of fruit, candy and  traditional mexican cookies called ojarascas.

The basket full of fruit means plenty of work and health, the basket of candy was for love and sweetness and  the last basket full of ojarascas from Pasteleria Lety (a Monterrey bakery). The baskets were beautiful and I loved the tradition and what it meant. The basket tradition is from Pepe’s town close to Monterrey called Santa Rosa.

This may seem like a lot, but the pedida, in english-asking for the hand of the woman, means the parents talk about their child and their qualities. After that Pepe talked about our plans and how we were planning on doing things for our future.

Everything was very special and I couldn’t ask for a better proposal and new traditions that I hope to imply in the family we will be forming. :)

Houston Engagement Photographer: Adriane and Joel

We met early last Saturday (yes, 10 a.m. is early for a shot, ha!) for Adriane and Joel’s session around the heights area. We pretty much walk around 19th street and played around with antiques and even jumped a little bit. Adriane and Joel are a very laid back couple and I think this area suited them well, I guess that’s why it was their choice! :) They are planning a winter wedding in the Woodlands, can’t wait for their day!

Enjoy!
