WPPI 2010

I’m back from a wirlwind adventure in Vegas that included a mini vacation with friends and then a much needed business trip full of inspiration at WPPI. This was the third time I have gone to Vegas to experience the speakers, tradeshow and most importantly all the networking with photographers from all over the world. So excited about all the wonderful people I met.

In the past I felt lost in the sea of photographers, not knowing what worked for me in my business. This year I felt confident, knowing that I already had established my workflow, made my own business decisions and could confidently walk through the tradeshow without feeling overwhelmed.

The best part of WPPI is networking with the photographers I already know who are a big part of my life, like the AKC girls, and the ones I didn’t know but can’t wait to learn more from.

Thanks to WPPI, VEGAS and the wonderful girls of Alpha Kappa Camera for making this WPPI a trip to remember! Looking forward to WPPI 2011!

Houston Engagement Photography: Christa and Roy

Christa and Roy win the award for braving the coldest day of January. Man it was cold. I was wearing my red wool coat with scarves and my dad’s driving mittens that I found in his truck. They kept my fingers warm while I clicked away and took these shoots of the two lovebirds.

They are getting married in March and I’m so excited to shoot their wedding. First wedding of 2010!

Here are a few shots we took in Downtown Houston by Minute Maid Stadium.

I told them to bring it in real nice and tight, it also helped keep them warm.

One of my favorite from their session. I love their expressions.

Roy is a firefighter and an EMT so we headed back to his station and took a couple of pics there. He represents STATION 9!

This one is so sweet!

Thanks to Christa and Roy for being such troopers in the cold and not complaining. It sure was worth it!

The Wedding Album

After the cake is cut, the last dance is done and you return from your honeymoon the one thing you are most excited about is getting your wedding photos. To relive the day from beginning to end. From the getting ready details to the reception details. Your wedding album is your first family heirloom. The album you will show at family reunions and the album your children will flip through a million times.

At JTG STUDIO, everything is done in house. I meet with you for your initial consultation, you book the date. I photograph your engagement and bridal session. The wedding day goes by smoothly as you are working it for the camera. After all the other sessions, you feel so relaxed it’s as if I’m just a good friend with a really nice camera. While you are away on your honeymoon, I sort through all the photos and narrow them down to an average of 400-600 pictures. The wedding album is designed in house as well. I create an album that will stand the test of time, without flourishes and stamps that will date your album. You will receive an elegant, clean crisp design telling the story of your wedding day.

My favorite part (after taking the photos) is seeing the bride and groom flip through the album and just falling in love all over again, laughing and reminiscing on how wonderful their day was.

Here are some photos of a recent album. It is an 11×14 album, with a cocoa leather cover and a champagne accent strap.

The 8×6 cover photo is made out of metal.

Houston Maternity Photographer

Last year, my last session was with Lely and Pedro. I was thrilled to hear that they were coming to Houston for Christmas. I hadn’t seen them since their wedding in November of 2008. I was even more excited because Lely is 7 months pregnant and a maternity shoot was a must. With such beautiful subjects who could resist.

We set out that day to my favorite park in midtown and had a quick session. The sunset was beautiful and it made for glorious photos.

I can’t wait to meet your little bundle of joy.

Strike a pose!

Photobooth at weddings has been a trend for a while now and it has caught up in the Houston market. We have started offering this service to our brides and the response has been great.

My style of shooting weddings is more photojournalistic and candid. The photobooth at your wedding reception allows for a more posed shots, things get a little crazy. This is a good opportunity for guest to take a photo with different props. Guest can get creative when it comes to the booth. Instead of going table per table and getting shots of guest, they can step into the photobooth. This allows me to capture the candid moments on the dance floor, while my assistant is capturing the posed photographs of the guest who wouldn’t be in the photographs because they are not in the action. A win, win situation!!

Augusta Pines Wedding Photography: Joel and Adriane

After a beautiful ceremony at St. Anthony of Padua in the Woodlands, the bride and groom and their guest celebrated at Augusta Pines Country Club. Their centerpieces were very original. Coordinating with the wedding colors, the 3 tier presents adorned each table. How about that for a diy!

Just before we lost all the light, Adriane and Joel snuck out for some photos around the club. Love these two shots.

Then the dancing started…all night long.

And then you know what they say if you catch the bouquet, right?! You get engaged and that’s exactly what happened to Miss Kelly.

And for the grand exit, the couple was showered with snowflakes. Perfect for their winter wedding.

The Woodlands Wedding Photography: Joel and Adriane

Surrounded by their loving families and friends, Joel and Adriane were united in matrimony at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in the Woodlands. The day started with hair preparation for the bride and her beautiful bridesmaids. They finished her make up on time and carefully slipped on her dress. Adriane was glowing, you couldn’t erase her smile.

Thankful

This past holiday season was a bit bitter sweet for me. It was after all the last holidays I would fully celebrate with my family. To say that I cried and had a meltdown is an understatement. This year will be different and I’ll be celebrating and ringing in the new year with my new family.

A small tidbit about me: Pepe and I have never celebrated Christmas or New Years together in the past 6 years that we have been together. He is with his family and I’m with mine.

As tradition would have it, we spend Christmas in town at my aunt’s house and exchange gifts. A few days after Christmas we take off to celebrate New Years with my dad’s side of the family in a small town called Los Garza: Population 230ish. I think those numbers are just a bit off during the year, but once the kids are out of school for the holidays the town is rejuvenated. People walking down the street and having lunch out in the patio.

I looked forward to the trip to Los Garza, knowing that it would probably be the last time I would spend so many days there. I’m not say I won’t go back, but probably won’t be able to spend the whole week there. That’s what happens when you get married. You gain a whole new family and new traditions are started.

I took advantage of the time we had and simply documented what was truly special to me; my family, having lazy days where we just sat around and talked, played games and ate wonderful food.

Here are the people who love me unconditional and are always wanting me to succeed! I love you guys!
